My first encounter with him was about 2.5 years ago, when I first encountered him on IRC. Since then I have communicated with him regularly and have been impressed with both his breadth & depth of knowledge. He has always been both able and willing to offer helpful advice to other users, demonstrating a comprehensive knowledgs of PC hardware and software and perhaps more importantly an ability to give his advice at a level appropriate to the questioners level of technical ability. Where he finds a gap in his knowledge he asks sensible questons and I cannot recall an occasion where he has needed to ask similar questions more than once. In particular his level of expertise with internet applications is excellent. On a personal level, my association with him on the internet has remained cordial at all times and he shares my dislike of the pettiness & stupidity that frequently invades the internet as its popularity grows. It of course goes without saying that I along with many others respect the extent to which he has overcome his sight problems to be an active participant in what is still a mainly visual medium. So effective has he been at this that most people meeting him on the internet for the first time have no indication that he is anything other than fully sighted. His intimate knowledge of this field alone would, I believe, make him a valuable resource. +---------------------------------+--------------------------------------+ |Dave Booth | Work: d.booth@umds.ac.uk | |Unix Systems Administrator | Home: dave@jdbooth.demon.co.uk | |UMDS | WWW : http://www.umds.ac.uk/dave/ | +---------------------------------+--------------------------------------+ Note to mailing list administrators: Unless I have explicitly given my consent to the use of my email addresses for any commercial purpose, you may regard that consent as implicitly withheld.
